Four years after the series finale, Aoi Miyamori is still working and dealing with problems at the fictional animation studio Musashino Animation.

After a meeting, Watanabe persuades Aoi to take charge of an animation project at the studio. However, unexpected problems arise during the project, causing Aoi to question whether the company can continue with such a project. Meanwhile, Aoi meets Kaede Miyai.
