Yoko Takahashi

She made her debut as a solo artist in 1991 for a major record company with “P. S. I miss you.” With this song she won the Japan Record Awards and Japan Cable Radio Awards for New Artist of the Year. Since 1987, before her grand debut, she performed as a backup singer and studio musician in concerts of Toshinobu Kubota and Yumi Matsutôya.

Her greatest success came in 1995 with the opening song of “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” a song called “Zankokuna tenshi no têze.” In 1997 she sang “Tamashii no refrain,” the main theme of the movie “Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth.” The artist has continued to achieve success up to this day. She has sold an estimate of 1,750,000 records and has accumulated 2,300,000 downloads and 100 million streaming plays.

To date, she has released 29 singles, 13 albums and 8 compilation albums. In March 2017, she released the maxi-single “Welcome to the Stage,” produced by Shirô Sagisu and based on “Shin Godzilla vs. Evangelion.” The CD cover illustration designed by Moyoco Anno captivated the audience and that same month the singer participated in a symphony concert with the same theme held at Orchard Hall Bunkamura in Shibuya. At the end of 2017, King Records released a CD record of the concert. On June 20, 2018, a double maxi-single with the remastered tracks of “Zankokuna tenshi no têze” and “Tamashii no refrain” was released.

In 2018 she went on tour with the “Neon Genesis Evangelion World Tour,” with concerts in places like France, Beijing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Taiwan or Russia. On July 24, 2019, she released the single “Zankokuna tenshi no têze MATSURI SPIRIT.” On October 7, 2020, she released “EVANGELION FINALLY,” a CD containing a selection of sung compositions from “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” a show where artist has performed a plethora of songs. On August 31, 2021, the version of the song with vocal arrangements from the movie “EVANGELION: 3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME” entitled “Shirô Sagisu What if? Yôko Takahashi ver. Normal type” was released.
